Natsume Takashi can see ayakashi. His now deceased grandmother Reiko shared this ability, and in her youth she challenged ayakashi to fights and, if victorious, forced them to write their names on paper as a contract of submission to be her underlings. She bound this book and named it Yuujinchou. Ever since Natsume inherited it he has been troubled by ayakashi. He resolves to return all of their names.
